What if you let yourself be terrible at this?

What if you let yourself be terrible at this?

Hey there,

This week, I did something uncomfortable: I let myself be bad at something on purpose.

  • I scribbled a sketch without fixing the “mistakes.”
  • I wrote a messy journal entry with no clear thoughts.
  • I tried a new technique and knew it wouldn’t turn out “right.”

It felt weird at first. My brain hated it. But then? It felt… freeing.

Perfectionism is a creativity killer. The more we pressure ourselves to be “good” at something, the more we resist even trying. The irony? The only way to get better is to let ourselves be bad first.

So here’s a challenge: do something creative this week that you KNOW you won’t be good at. Let it be messy. Let it be imperfect. See what happens.

Reply and tell me what you tried. Or share this email with a friend who could use a reminder that creativity isn’t about being good—it’s about showing up anyway.
